BIOGRAPHY:Alberta Cross is a band that gets it right. Sure, members are stylish and debonair, but what they really care about is the songs. And what songs! Rooted in the soulful country twang of The Byrds and Neil Young, their songs evoke a time when bands wrote albums, not singles, and music was more than just commerce; it was an experience and a way of being. But Alberta Cross is not a slave to the past. The band’s sound not only honors but also comments on and reinterprets rocks greats, much as The White Stripes and Kings of Leon have done. It was a shared loved of old records that first brought band founders, guitarist-singer Petter Ericson Stakee and bassist Terry Wolfers, together in London. They came from different worlds; Petter divided his youth between Sweden and England, while Terry grew up in London’s East End, but they both were devotees of The Band, Leonard Cohen and Van Morrison.
Having released an EP, “The Thief and the Heartbreaker” on Geffen Records in 2007 and toured with the likes of The Shins and Bats for Lashes, the band has since relocated to New York City and changed its lineup to include keyboardist Alec Higgins, drummer Austin Beede, and guitarist Sam Kearney. Currently working on their ATO/ARK debut, the band continues to focus on the basics: rock songs you can feel as well as hear.
