BIOGRAPHY:Joshua Wentz is a multi-instrumentalist composer/performer from Chicago, Illinois. For the past twelve years he has focused on having a complete lack of focus, creating and independently releasing 4 albums and 10 EPs, writing music for documentary film and commercial applications, developing experiments in remote collaboration, and most recently starting Winchester Sessions, a weekly podcast of completely improvised long-form recordings from his home studio.
Joshua Wentz's music is genre-agnostic, choosing to flit in and out of known styles rather than remaining planted in specific categories. His newest full-length release, GMOVJ, is an homage to Mike Oldfield, an esteemed artist who has had a profound impact on his career. His newest EP, titled Field, is set for a June release exclusively on INDISTR (www.indistr.com), a site dedicated to the work of independent artists.
Realizing that independence in music can often involve a struggle for good design and marketing, Joshua Wentz founded Sidedown Audio, a label for solo home-recording artists, which launched in June 2008. "My background is in design, and I wanted to create a label that combines amazing music with quality design to create an artistic and professional product, all while maintaining the artist's full rights to their music." Sidedown Audio will release between 4 and 6 albums a year, beginning with Joshua Wentz's GMOVJ, and Castrovalva, a soulful and brooding acoustic album by Jeremy Simmons.
