Q: How do I get support for my UE MINI BOOM?

Q: How do I set up my UE MINI BOOM?

A: Setting up the UE MINI BOOM

You can connect your UE MINI BOOM to your smartphone, tablet or other device using either Bluetooth or the auxiliary input.

Bluetooth

Out of the package, your UE MINI BOOM is ready to pair with your first Bluetooth device. Here’s how:

1.    Turn the speaker on by sliding the power switch on the back of the speaker to the right.

  • You’ll see green behind the power switch.

  • The power indicator to the right of power switch will glow green.

  • The Bluetooth connect button (on the front of the speaker) will blink blue rapidly.

  • You’ll hear a tone indicating the speaker is ready to pair.

2.    On your device, go to the Bluetooth menu and scan for devices (make sure Bluetooth is enabled).

3.    Select UE MINI BOOM from the list of devices.     

NOTE: UE MINI BOOM volume is set to maximum when you pair it with an iOS device.

Once paired and connected, you’ll hear an audible confirmation from the speaker. This means your UE MINI BOOM is ready to use. You can pair additional devices with your speaker.

Auxiliary Input

1.    Turn the speaker on by sliding the power switch on the back of the speaker to the right.

2.    Connect the speaker to your device using a 3.5mm analog cable (not included).
    

NOTE: Use only a 3-pole (non-microphone or inline remote cable) auxiliary cable.

NOTE: If a Bluetooth device is connected to the UE MINI BOOM while playing audio from an auxiliary connection, the Bluetooth device will take priority and the stream from the auxiliary device will stop.The USB connection is solely for charging your UE MINI BOOM. It won’t enable you to use your speaker as an audio-output device when connected to a  computer.

Q: How do I pair additional Bluetooth devices with my UE MINI BOOM?

A: Connect additional devices to the UE MINI BOOM

Your UE MINI BOOM can store up to eight paired devices in memory.

Pairing additional devices

After you pair the first device (see “How do I setup my UE MINI BOOM?”), here’s how to pair additional devices:

1.    Turn the speaker on.

2.    Hold down the Bluetooth button (on top of the speaker between the volume +/- buttons) until you hear a tone.

NOTE: The Bluetooth connection button will blink rapidly, indicating that the speaker is ready for pairing.

3.    On your device, go to the Bluetooth menu and scan for devices.

4.    Select UE MINI BOOM from the list of devices.

Once paired and connected, you’ll hear an audible confirmation from the speaker. Your UE MINI BOOM is now ready to use with the device you added.

NOTE: While the speaker can store up to eight paired devices, it can only maintain an active connection with two of them at once. See “Can I use my speaker with more than one device at a time?” for more information.

Reconnecting to a device

To reconnect a device after the initial pairing or after pairing another device:

1.    Turn the speaker on.

2.    On your device, go to the Bluetooth menu and select UE MINI BOOM from the list of devices.

Once reconnected, you’ll hear an audible confirmation from the speaker. Your UE MINI BOOM is now ready to use with the device you selected.

Q: What should I do if the audio is distorted or drops out on my UE MINI BOOM?

A: Audio distorted or dropping out when streaming to the UE MINI BOOM

If you’re having trouble with audio distortion or drop-outs on your UE MINI BOOM, try these suggestions:  

  • Move the audio source closer – it might be out of the range of your speaker.

  • Move away from other sources of wireless signal – you could be experiencing interference.

  • Make sure your speaker has enough battery power (connect it to a power source with the supplied adapter).

  • Adjust the volume on both the audio source and your speaker.

  • Restart both your speaker and the audio source.

  • Re-pair your device with your speaker (see “How do I pair additional Bluetooth devices with my UE MINI BOOM?”).

  • If you’re using two UE MINI BOOM speakers (for re-streaming or stereo playback), try disconnecting and streaming to one speaker only.

NOTE: If you’re streaming audio content from the internet, the issue could be with the internet connection and not your speaker.

Q: Why won't my Bluetooth device connect to my UE MINI BOOM?

If your Bluetooth device won’t connect to your UE MINI BOOM, try the following:  

  • Make sure your device is paired with your speaker and Bluetooth is active (see “How do I pair additional Bluetooth devices with my UE MINI BOOM?”).

  • Place your Bluetooth device closer to the speaker – it might be out of range.

  • Move your Bluetooth device and speaker away from other wireless sources – you could be experiencing interference.

  • If you have multiple UE MINI BOOM speakers, make sure you’re connected to the correct one.

  • The UE MINI BOOM can be connected to up to two devices at a time -- make sure you don’t already have two devices connected.

  • Turn your UE MINI BOOM Off, and then back On again.

NOTE: If this is the first time you’re pairing a device with your speaker, you don’t need to press the Bluetooth connection button. It comes out of the box ready to pair.

Q: Can I use my UE MINI BOOM with more than one device at a time?

A: Using the UE MINI BOOM with multiple connected devices

Your UE MINI BOOM can have eight devices paired with it, and you can connect to two at a time. This lets you quickly switch to a second device to play audio without having to go through the connection process again. Here’s how:

1.    Connect the first paired device to your speaker by selecting it from the device’s Bluetooth menu.

NOTE: If you haven’t paired any devices, see “How do I set up my UE MINI BOOM” for help.    

2.    Connect a second device to your speaker the same way you did in step #1.

NOTE: If you haven’t paired any additional devices, see “How do I pair additional Bluetooth devices with my speaker” for help.

3.    Once you have two devices connected, you can start playing audio from one of them.

4.    To switch and play audio from another connected device, pause the current one. Then, start playing the other.

Q: How do I use my UE MINI BOOM for phone calls?

A: Use the UE MINI BOOM as a speakerphone

You can use your UE MINI BOOM as a speakerphone once it’s turned on and connected to your cell phone. Here’s how:

1.    Make or answer a call on your phone:

NOTE: Answer incoming calls from your UE MINI BOOM by pressing the Bluetooth button on top of the speaker.

A: iPhone – You’ll have the option to take the call on your UE MINI BOOM (speakerphone) or directly on your phone. Select “audio source” from the in-call menu, and then tap UE MINI BOOM to use it as a speakerphone.

B: Android – On most Android smartphones, the call will default to the UE MINI BOOM (speakerphone). Turn Headset mode off on your smartphone to take the call directly.

2.    Adjust the call volume from either the phone or speaker.

3.    When you’re finished, you can end the call on your phone or by pressing the Bluetooth button on top of the speaker.

NOTE: Skype may or may not work on a Bluetooth speakerphone. This depends on your smartphone’s make and model, and Skype settings.

Q: How do I use my UE MINI BOOM with a computer?

A: Connect the UE MINI BOOM with a computer

You can connect your UE MINI BOOM to a Macintosh or PC that has Bluetooth capabilities.

Macintosh    

1.    From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.

2.    Open the Bluetooth preference pane.

3.    Click “+” to add a new Bluetooth device.

4.    Turn the speaker on.

5.    Hold down the Bluetooth button on top of the speaker until you hear a tone.

NOTE: The Bluetooth connection button will blink rapidly, meaning the speaker is ready for pairing.

6.    Select UE MINI BOOM from the list of available devices and click Continue.

IMPORTANT: The UE MINI BOOM can also be a speakerphone. Macintosh OS sets it as a headset device by default.

To set UE MINI BOOM as a stereo speaker on your Mac:

1.    From the Apple menu, select System Preferences.

2.    Select Sound.

3.    On the Output tab, you’ll see both “UE MINI BOOM Stereo” and “UE MINI BOOM”. Select “UE MINI BOOM Stereo”.

4.    Close System Preferences.

PC

1.    Turn the speaker on.

2.    Hold down the Bluetooth button on top of the speaker until you hear a tone.

NOTE: The Bluetooth connection button will blink rapidly, meaning the speaker is ready for pairing.

3.    Open your Control Panel.

4.    Select Hardware and Sound.

5.    Select Devices and Printers.

6.    Select Bluetooth Devices.

7.    Click Add a device.

8.    Select UE MINI BOOM from the list of devices, and then click next.

NOTE: If the Bluetooth Device Control window opens, expand the Headset type menu and select “My hands-free device UE MINI BOOM does not have a display”. Then, click Apply.

Once your speaker is paired and connected, you’ll have to select the UE MINI BOOM as the default playback device in the Windows Sound settings. Here’s how:

1.    Open your Control Panel.

2.    Select Hardware and Sound.

3.    Select Manage audio devices (under Sound).

4.    Select “Speakers Bluetooth Hands-free Audio” and click Set Default.

5.    Click OK.

Q: Why do I have audio problems when two devices are connected to my UE MINI BOOM?

A: Audio is choppy or skips when two devices are connect to the UE MINI BOOM

You might experience audio problems if one of the two devices keeps requesting the connection while the current device is streaming. If so, try the following:

  • Pause the stream from the second device that isn’t currently being used.

  • Turn Bluetooth off on the second device.

  • If the primary Bluetooth device is a Macintosh computer, select, “Don’t use this device” from the Bluetooth preference pane in System Preferences.

Q: What can I do if the volume isn’t synchronized between my Apple device and my UE MINI BOOM?

The volume settings between your UE MINI BOOM and Apple device can sometimes get out of synchronization. If this happens, try the following:

  • Turn the Bluetooth connection on your device Off, and then back On again.

  • Turn your device Off, and then back on.

Q: Why can’t my iOS device connect to my UE MINI BOOM?

A: iOS device no longer connects to my UE MINI BOOM

If your iOS device no longer connects to your UE MINI BOOM, try the following:                               

  • Turn your UE MINI BOOM off and then back on.

  • Turn your iOS device off and then back on.


If your iOS device still won’t connect, you should re-pair your device with the UE MINI BOOM. Here’s how:   

1.    In the Bluetooth menu on your iOS device, locate UE MINI BOOM and tap the arrow next to it.

2.    Tap Forget this Device.

3.    Turn your speaker on.

4.    Hold down the Bluetooth button (between the Volume +/- buttons) until you hear a tone.

NOTE: The Bluetooth connection button will blink rapidly, meaning the speaker is ready for pairing.

5.    On your device, go to the Bluetooth menu and scan for devices.

6.    Tap UE MINI BOOM to pair.

Q: Why can’t I switch between two connected devices with the UE MINI BOOM?

A: Unable to switch between two connected devices with the UE MINI BOOM

Some devices will hold a connection with the UE MINI BOOM even when the stream is paused or the connection is idle.

To fix this issue, try the following on the device you no longer want to use:    

  • Disconnect from the UE MINI BOOM.

OR

  • Turn off the Bluetooth connection.

This should allow another device to connect to your UE MINI BOOM.

Q: Why aren’t my UE MINI BOOM controls working correctly when I use a 3.5mm auxiliary cable?

A: UE MINI BOOM controls not working with device connected by 3.5mm auxiliary cable

The UE MINI BOOM was designed to be used with a 3-pole (non-microphone or inline remote cable) auxiliary connector. You might experience unexpected behavior with controls if you use a 4-pole (with inline microphone and/or inline remote) auxiliary cable.    

Only use a 3-pole cable with your UE MINI BOOM.

Q: Can I change the display name of my UE MINI BOOM?

A: Name your UE MINI BOOM

You can change the way your speaker is displayed in the UE MINI BOOM app.

Android Device

1.    Connect your device to your UE MINI BOOM.

2.    Open the UE MINI BOOM app.

3.    Tap the Settings icon.

4.    Tap Speaker name and enter the new name for your speaker.    

NOTE: You might have to un-pair and re-pair your speaker for the changes to take effect.

For Android, you can also change the display name of your UE MINI BOOM in the Bluetooth device menu. Here’s how:

1.    Open your Bluetooth device menu.

2.    Locate your UE MINI BOOM and tap the Settings icon next to it.

3.    Tap Rename and enter the new name for your speaker.

iOS Device

1.    Connect your device to your UE MINI BOOM.

2.    Open the UE MINI BOOM app.

3.    Tap the Settings icon.

4.    Tap Speaker name and enter the new name for your speaker.

You can’t change the display name of your UE MINI BOOM in the iOS Bluetooth device menu.

NOTE: You might have to un-pair and re-pair your speaker for the changes to take effect.

Q: How can I check how much battery charge my UE MINI BOOM has?

A: Checking the UE MINI BOOM battery level

You can check your speaker’s current battery level in the UE MINI BOOM app. Here’s how:

1.    Open the UE MINI BOOM app.

2.    Tap the Settings icon. The battery level will display.

You can also check the power indicator on the back of your UE MINI BOOM (next to the power switch). If it is:

  • Green -- more than 15% of the battery charge remains

  • Red -- less than 15% of the battery charge remains

Q: Why can’t I select my UE MINI BOOM from the iOS Airplay menu?

A: Unable to select the UE MINI BOOM from the iOS Airplay menu

If you have multiple UE MINI BOOM speakers connected to one or more iOS devices, you might not be able to select which speaker to use with the iOS Airplay menu.

If you have two Bluetooth sources, try disconnecting the second source and use only one source.

Q: How do I use the UE MINI BOOM “Double Up” feature?

A: Use the UE MINI BOOM “Double Up” feature

If you have two UE MINI BOOM speakers, you can use them together to amplify your sound. Here’s how:

With the UE MINI BOOM app

The UE MINI BOOM app lets you choose between these two “Double Up” modes:   

  • Double – Expands the audio to the two UE MINI BOOM speakers for double the sound

  • Stereo – Turns the two UE MINI BOOM speakers into Left and Right speakers (you can also swap the left and right assignments using the app)

1.    Connect your first UE MINI BOOM to your Bluetooth device.

2.    Open the UE MINI BOOM app and tap the “Double Up” icon.

3.    Turn on your second UE MINI BOOM.

4.    Tap Start in the UE MINI BOOM app.

5.    Press the Bluetooth connect button on your second UE MINI BOOM twice quickly.

The two UE MINI BOOMs will now be connected to your Bluetooth device.

Without the UE MINI BOOM app

1.    Connect your first UE MINI BOOM to your Bluetooth device.

2.    On the first UE MINI BOOM, press the Bluetooth and Volume Up (+) buttons at the same time.

3.    Press the Bluetooth button on the second UE MINI BOOM twice to complete the connection.

NOTE: You can only use the “Double Up” feature with one connected Bluetooth device at a time.

Q: Can I use NFC to connect my device to my UE MINI BOOM?

A: Pair your UE MINI BOOM using NFC (Near Field Communication)

Some smartphones and other devices are NFC-enabled. With them, you can use NFC to connect your device to your UE MINI BOOM. Here’s how:

1.    Make sure NFC is enabled on your device (see your device’s documentation for help).

2.    Turn on your UE MINI BOOM.

NOTE: You might need to place your speaker in pairing mode. Hold down the Bluetooth connect button (on top of the speaker) on your UE MINI BOOM until you hear a tone.

3.    Hold your device near the top of your UE MINI BOOM directly over the Bluetooth connect button.

NOTE: If prompted by your device, confirm the pairing.

You’ll hear an audible confirmation from your UE MINI BOOM when the pairing is complete.

NOTE: Your UE MINI BOOM stays in a pairing state for 3 minutes. Be sure to try to pair using NFC within 3 minutes. If you’re unable to pair using NFC, see “Setting up UE MINI BOOM” to pair using Bluetooth.

Q: Why did my UE MINI BOOM app stop working on my Android device?

Your UE MINI BOOM app might stop working if you have two Bluetooth devices connected to your UE MINI BOOM. To fix this issue, try the following: 

1.    Disconnect the second Bluetooth device from your UE MINI BOOM.


NOTE: You can disconnect it from the Bluetooth devices menu, or turn the device’s Bluetooth connection off completely.

2.    Stop and restart the UE MINI BOOM app on the device you want to use.

If this doesn’t work, try the following:

1.    Turn your device off, and then back on again.

2.    Turn your UE MINI BOOM off, and then back on again.

3.    Stop and restart the UE MINI BOOM app.

Q: Can I use a USB charging adapter with the USB charging cable that comes with my UE MINI BOOM?

A: Recharging your UE MINI BOOM

There are two ways you can recharge your UE MINI BOOM using the supplied charging cable. You can:     

  • Connect the USB cable to a USB port on your laptop or desktop

  • Connect the USB cable to a USB wall charger

NOTE: Charging times depend on the output of the power source where you connect your UE MINI BOOM.

Q: Where can I find a detailed user manual for my UE MINI BOOM?

You can get the UE MINI BOOM app from the:

  • App Store on your iOS device

  • Google Play Store on your Android device (search for “UE MINI BOOM”)

Q: Why won’t my UE MINI BOOM turn on even when I connect it to power?

A: UE MINI BOOM no longer turns on

If your UE MINI BOOM battery is completely drained, it can take up to 30 minutes before it will have enough charge to turn on again.

The actual amount of charge time required depends on both the output of the power source, and how fully drained your UE MINI BOOM battery is.

Q: Can I use the Double Up feature with a different speaker?

A: Double Up with UE MINI BOOM and other UE speakers?.

The UE MINI BOOM Double Up feature allows it you to re-stream audio to a second UE MINI BOOM or other UE speaker that has re-streaming capability (ex. UE MINI BOOM).   

Although you can use this feature with non-matching speakers, the acoustic performance might not meet your expectations. We recommend using the Double Up feature with the same model speaker.

Q: Where can I get the UE MINI BOOM app and what can I do with it?

A: Using the UE MINI BOOM app

You can get the UE MINI BOOM app from the App Store on your iOS device, and the Google Play Store on your Android device (search for “UE MINI BOOM”). Minimum requirements to use the app:   

  • Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) – 4.3.x (Jelly Bean)

  • Apple iOS 5.1 – 6.x

With the app, you can:

  • Connect a second UE MINI BOOM to double the sound or get stereo playback

  • Access the Settings page

  • Access a detailed user’s guide

Connect a second UE MINI BOOM for double the sound or stereo playback

After you connect to one UE MINI BOOM, you can use the app to connect a second one. Here’s how:

1.    Open the app and select the Double Up icon.

2.    Turn the second UE MINI BOOM on.

3.    Tap Start and follow the on-screen instructions.

Once connected, you can toggle between “Double Up” mode, which duplicates audio on both speakers, or “Stereo” mode for stereo output. To swap the left/right speaker orientation in Stereo mode, tap the swap icon in-between the speakers.

Access the Settings page

To access the Settings page, tap the Settings icon:

On the settings page, you can:

  • Change your speaker name

  • Display the battery life information

  • Change the language interface

  • Modify the equalizer settings

  • Turn alert sounds on and off

  • Display the app version, speaker’s firmware version, and UE MINI BOOM serial number (S/N)
