QUESTIONS

What speakers can PartyUp?

The following speakers can join the party:

  1. UE BOOM 2
  2. UE BOOM
  3. UE MEGABOOM

To join the party, you’ll need to get the latest and greatest App and Software for your speakers first. Check the iOS App Store or Android Play Store for the latest app update. Once you have the latest app, you can update your speaker software through the app via OTA (over-the-air).

Alternatively, you can download the desktop update utility here:

MAC
Windows

Note: If the option to update via OTA is not available in the app for your UE BOOM, you’ll need to download and update via the desktop update utility.

Once you’re up on the latest app and speaker software, follow the steps below.

  1. Connect the first speaker (host) to your phone or tablet then open your UE speaker app.
  2. On the home screen of the app, swipe the screen from right to left to get to the PartyUp screen.
  3. Guest speakers will start to appear in the drawer (bottom of the PartyUp screen). Drag and drop the guest speakers you want to join the party.
  4. To boot a guest speaker from the party, just drag and drop in back into the drawer or just turn it off.

Note: If the guest speaker is not set as a public speaker, you will see a message with an extra step before that guest speaker can join the party. The ownerof that speaker will need to press the Bluetooth button twice on their speaker.

Can I still set my speakers to Stereo mode in PartyUp?

Yes, you can still enjoy Stereo audio, but need to make sure the following are met:

  1. Only two speakers are in the party.
  2. Both speakers connected are the same speaker types (UE BOOM can only go into stereo mode with another UE BOOM, MEGABOOM with MEGABOOM, etc.). You can’t go into stereo with mixed matched speakers.

Why is there audio distortion when I’m in PartyUp?

If you’re having trouble with audio distortion or drop-outs on your UE speaker, try these suggestions:

  1. Move the audio source closer – it might be out of the range of your speaker.
  2. Move away from other sources of wireless signal – you could be experiencing interference.
  3. Make sure your speaker has enough battery power (connect it to a power source with the supplied adapter).
  4. Adjust the volume on both the audio source and your speaker.
  5. Restart both your speaker and the audio source.
  6. Re-pair your device with your speaker (see “How do I pair additional Bluetooth devices with my UE speaker?”).
  7. If you’re using two or more UE speakers (in PartyUp mode), try disconnecting and streaming to one speaker only.

NOTE: If you’re streaming audio content from the internet, the issue could be with the internet connection and not your speaker.

Can my UE ROLL or UE ROLL 2 join the party?

No, PartyUp and the PartyUp update only applies to the following speakers:

  1. UE BOOM 2
  2. UE BOOM
  3. UE MEGABOOM

What is the Public setting in PartyUp Settings?

The privacy setting in the PartyUp Settings allows you to control your speaker’s promiscuity.

If you want your speaker to be able to join any party, make sure the setting is ON.

If you’d rather your speaker has more discretion, turn the setting off.

But don’t worry, if you prefer privacy, and still want to join a party, just double tap the bluetooth button once the host asks your speaker to join the party.

Can I PartyUp without the app?

Yes, you can PartyUp without the app. (but why would you want to?) If you have that 16GB phone, and don’t have room for another app, here’s how:

  1. Connect your first UE speaker (host) host to your Bluetooth device.
  2. Press and hold the Volume + and Bluetooth button simultaneously until you hear a tone.
  3. Turn on your second UE speaker (guest).
  4. Press the Bluetooth button on your second UE speaker twice.
  5. The two UE speakers will communicate and once they connect you will hear and audible confirmation.
  6. Repeat steps 2 thru 5 for any other guest you’d like to have join the party.

How does volume sync work in PartyUp?

When your speakers first enter the party, the volume of each guest speaker will sync up to the volume of the host speaker.

If the volume of the host speaker is adjusted, the volume of all host speakers will also be adjusted.

The volume of each guest speaker can also be adjusted individually. If you want the volume of all speakers in the party to sync up again, you can tap the volume sync icon in the PartyUp screen of the app.

Can I remotely turn a speaker On/Off in PartyUp?

Yes, PartyUp takes advantage of BLE, or Bluetooth Low Energy. When you start a party, you will see speakers that are within range in the drawer whether they’re On or Off (as long as Remote On/Off is enabled on that speaker).

When you drag and drop a speaker in the drawer into the party, it will be automatically powered on.

When you drag one of the guests out - or end the party altogether - the guest speakers will turn off.

Why does another speaker become the host after I turn it on?

If you’ve already started a party and then power on another speaker that you’ve previously connected to, it will become the host. This is by design since in a host battle, the most recent one always wins. To make the first host the ONLY host, just go to your Bluetooth settings and disconnect the second speaker. Once it is disconnected, you can go back into the UE app and start the party all over again.

After the latest update, Remote On/Off doesn't work in my Android app. What gives?

The latest version of the Android app requires the Location permission in order to enable Remote On/Off. If you have denied the app that permission, the feature will be disabled. You can easily enable it via your Android phone's Settings.

Why does an app for a speaker need my location information?

Great question. Ask Google. A recent update to the Android SDK requires location permission to be granted in order to enable certain features. Remote On/Off is enabled when Location permission is granted.
