CAN YOU TALK ABOUT THE SYMBOLISM BEHIND YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS FOR ULTIMATE EARS?
We chose three designs to represent what Ultimate Ears fans have come to know and love about their speakers: 360-degree immersive sound, seriously waterproof and virtually indestructible. The first design we did was inspired by 360-degree sound and portrays a band, with two crazy guys in funny clothes playing instruments – surrounded by a whirlwind of activity. We leveraged the birds and smoke around them to simulate Ultimate Ears’ 360-degree sound. The second one is about bringing the waterproof feature of Ultimate Ears to life. We did so through a scene in the ocean with fish, octopus and turtles coming to the surface. And, there’s a man in a boat who is looking forward, confidently - symbolizing both himself and his confidence as waterproof. Lastly, virtually indestructible was told through the third design, which resembles a fight to symbolize durability. There’s a badass panther punching a guy made out of rock and cactus - this panther is indestructible, just like Ultimate Ears speakers.
HOW DOES MUSIC PLAY A PART IN YOUR ARTWORK? AND, HOW DO YOU BRING MUSIC TO LIFE THROUGH YOUR ILLUSTRATIONS?
We love music, we listen to it everyday, especially when we’re creating our illustrations and murals. Music really inspires us and is often the driving force behind the bright, vivid colors that we use.
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO COLLABORATE WITH ULTIMATE EARS ON THESE ILLUSTRATIONS?
Music and art have gone hand in hand since the beginning for us, so when Ultimate Ears reached out, we found it to be a perfect match.
WHAT HAVE YOU ENJOYED THE MOST ABOUT WORKING ON THIS PROJECT WITH ULTIMATE EARS
We had a lot of freedom to be creative on this project. Ultimate Ears gave us some direction, some elements they wanted to see and some initial ideas, but we felt very free to create our own design in our own style. It’s nice when we can really let our creativity thrive from start to finish.
