ULTIMATE EARS FREESTYLE TOUR Tignes, du 19 au 22 mars 2018 Finale de la Coupe du Monde de ski halfpipe

LA VICE-CHAMPIONNE OLYMPIQUE, MARIE MARTINOD, TIRE SA RÉVÉRENCE. LES 6 MÉDAILLÉS OLYMPIQUES À L’HONNEUR DANS LE SUPERPIPE.    

Tout juste rentrés des Jeux Olympiques de Pyeongchang, les meilleurs skieurs de halfpipe du monde se donnent rendez-vous à Tignes du 19 au 22 mars pour l’Ultimate Ears Freestyle Tour, ultime étape de Coupe du monde de la discipline.

6 athlètes porteront fièrement leur médaille décrochée en Corée, comme la Française Marie Martinod dont ce sera la toute dernière compétition.

Les enjeux sont importants puisque le Globe de Cristal de la discipline récompensera le 1er homme et la 1ère femme du classement général de la Coupe du monde et un prize money de 43 000 euros sera distribué.

Cette finale sera l’unique rassemblement international post-olympique de ski halfpipe. Organisée en nocturne sur le front de neige, elle offrira un spectacle exceptionnel aux spectateurs attendus en masse pour applaudir et féliciter les médaillés olympiques. L’an passé, 10 000 personnes étaient réunies en bas du Superpipe de Tignes pour célébrer le sacre des deux enfants du pays, Kevin Rolland et Marie Martinod.

 

MARIE MARTINOD EN GUEST STAR POUR SA DERNIÈRE COURSE

15 ans de carrière, 2 Globes de Cristal, 7 victoires en Coupe du monde, 4 médailles aux X Games et 2 titres de vice-championne Olympique, Marie Martinod est tout simplement l’une des meilleures skieuses freestyle du monde. Celle qui a eu le mérite d’arrêter sa carrière pour se consacrer à sa vie de famille, avant de revenir au top niveau 5 ans plus tard, prendra son dernier départ en Coupe du monde ce jeudi 22 mars à Tignes. Ses fans savoyards ne manqueront pas le déplacement !  

Mais pour sa dernière course, la bataille sera acharnée car Marie devra se confronter à Cassie Sharpe (CAN), championne Olympique en titre, et à l’Américaine Brita Sigourney, médaillée de bronze et actuelle leader du classement Coupe du monde.

Face à elles, des adversaires tout aussi redoutables comme les Américaines Maddie Bowman (championne Olympique 2014) et Annalisa Drew, ou encore la japonaise Ayana Onozuka (double championne du monde 2015 et 2016).

 

DES FRANÇAIS REVANCHARDS FACE AUX AMÉRICAINS

Le skieur Français Kevin Rolland, double détenteur du Globe de Cristal (2016 et 2017), aura à cœur de terminer sa saison en beauté. Après une 2e place prometteuse lors de la première étape de Coupe du monde, sa saison fut ponctuée de blessures compromettant fortement ses chances de succès. Sa 5e place aux qualifications des Jeux Olympiques et sa présence en finale relèvent de l’exploit tellement son corps le faisait souffrir.

L’objectif de son coéquipier et ami Thomas Krief est, quant à lui, de confirmer sa montée en puissance amorcée en décembre dernier, lors de son retour à la compétition. Moins d’un an après une rupture des ligaments croisés des 2 genoux, il a remporté sa première Coupe du monde en Chine et est allé jusqu’à se qualifier pour la finale à PyeongChang.

Cet hiver se sont les américains David Wise, double champion Olympique (2018 et 2014) et Alex Ferreira, vice-champion Olympique 2018 et leader actuel de la Coupe du monde, qui dominent le circuit et rivaliseront lors de cette finale pour remporter le Globe de Cristal.

Pour compléter le tableau, le médaillé de bronze à PyeongChang Nico Porteous, les Américains Aaron Blunck (1er des X Games 2017 et actuellement 3e du général), Birk Irving, Torin Yater-Wallace (1er des X Games 2013 et 2016) et les Canadiens Simon d’Artois (1er des X Games d’Aspen 2015) et Noah Bowman seront au départ.

 

UNE FINALE DE NUIT

Cette année encore, plus de 10 000 personnes sont attendues au pied du Superpipe de Tignes pour encourager les athlètes et assister à cette finale en nocturne. Une ambiance qui s’annonce exceptionnelle avec la présence des supporters de la Plagne menés par Ben Valentin, le spécialiste de pipe Français, victime d’une rupture des ligaments croisés en début de saison, et des fans de Marie Martinod qui viendront célébrer la dernière course de sa très belle et longue carrière.
